Vision Insurance

The knowledgeable staff at Insight Eyecare is experienced in working with vision insurance providers. We will work directly with you and your vision insurer to submit claims regarding your vision care. We strive to ensure that you understand your insurance coverage and will answer any questions you may have regarding your benefits. Many current vision plans are designed to cover the basic vision-related costs but perhaps not all of the costs related to vision care. Most plans often require a co-payment for an office appointment as well as additional costs that are covered by the insured patient.

At Insight Eyecare, we accept both vision and medical insurance. It is advantageous to bring both cards to your appointment as we will help you minimize your spendings. Vision insurance pays toward routine comprehensive eye exams and often pays for a portion or offers a discount on prescription glasses or contact lenses. Medical insurance pays toward eye care visits that are medical in nature, such as pink eye, dry eye and glaucoma. If there are medical reasons behind a comprehensive eye exam, medical insurance may be applied and we will discuss this with you beforehand.

We accept the following vision and medical plans:

  • VSP
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield (including those out of state)
  • Davis Vision
  • United Healthcare
  • Spectera
  • Oxford
  • Superior Vision

If you do not see your insurance company on our list, please contact our office at (908) 635-3365 to find out more information.

Flexible Spending Accounts

Many employers are offering Flexible Spending Account (FSA) options to employees. Sometimes these are referred to as cafeteria plans and are elective, supplemental insurance savings plans. These plans are designed to let you save money in an account, pre-tax, to pay for additional medical expenses such as eye exams, glasses, contacts, and often laser vision surgery. Check with the benefits administrator at your work to see if you are eligible for this program. FSAs can typically be used in conjunction with any vision insurance plan to offset any out-of-pocket costs on your behalf.

Other Payment Options

Our Somerville optometry staff understands that cost is a concern when evaluating vision care providers. Because we do not want cost to be an obstacle to maintaining proper eye health and good vision, we accept Care Credit. This is a healthcare credit card that you can use to pay for your eye exam, glasses and contact lenses.

It’s a way to pay for these costs and allows you to make convenient monthly payments without interest for six months! The application process is quick, easy and free and can be done in a few minutes in the office. We also accept various forms of payment and are able to discuss financing options with you prior to any examination. At Insight Eyecare, we also accept cash, check, and major credit cards.
